BIO

Lydia Dean Pilcher is a two time Emmy-winning, Academy Award nominated Producer and founder of Cine Mosaic, a leading production company based in New York City, with extensive experience in international co-production.  A film and television director, visual artist, and writer, Pilcher brings her vision to the dynamic world of global storytelling.

With a background in painting, photography, and journalism, Pilcher attended NYU Graduate Institute of Film and TV. She began her career directing documentaries and working in production, which led to an adventurous creative producing career supported by a deal with HBO Films ( producer credits below).

In 2018 Pilcher co-directed the feature, Radium Girls, starring Golden Globe nominee Joey King and Abby Quinn, with executive producers Lily Tomlin & Jane Wagner. Radium Girls screened at Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a virtual/theatrical release in Fall 2020, and national impact campaign supported by Erin Brokovich, The Sierra Club, and Sloan Science on Screen, before launching on Netflix.

In 2019, Pilcher directed the international feature, A Call to Spy, a female-driven World War II spy thriller based on the true stories of Noor Inayat Khan, Vera Atkins, and Virginia Hall, filmed in Budapest. The movie had an international release in 2020 (IFC Films in US), and has streamed on Netflix.

In 2022 she wrote and directed a science fiction film, Homing Instinct, based on the short story by Dani McClain from the anthology, Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements. Pilcher adapted the award-winning film into a multi-screen cinematic installation that premiered in a solo exhibition and 80 screenings at Kleinert James Arts Center supported by Silver Sun Foundation in conjunction with the Woodstock Film Festival.

As an award-winning producer, Pilcher has worked with auteur directors including Gina Prince-Bythewood, Wes Anderson, Barry Levinson, Ritesh Batra, Kathryn Bigelow, George Wolfe, and she produced twelve films in a longstanding collaboration with international director Mira Nair. Their most recent work includes the feature, Queen of Katwe for Disney (filmed in Uganda and South Africa) and the six-hour mini-series for BBC/Netflix, A Suitable Boy set in India, based on the novel by Vikram Seth (Netflix/International), and filmed in Lucknow and Maheshwar, India.

Pilcher is a co-founder of Producer’s Guild of America sustainability initiatives and PGA Women’s Impact Network, serves as a Chair of the DGA Sustainable Future Committee, and is a member of DGA, WGA, PGA, AMPAS, and ATAS. Pilcher designed and has taught Audience and Cultural Strategy at Tisch NYU Graduate Institute of Film & TV, and serves on the Advisory Board for the NYU Production Lab and The Hollywood Climate Summit. In 2024 she will teach an interdisciplinary graduate level course she designed for Columbia University’s Climate School and School of the Arts: Climatic Change: Storytelling Arts, Zeitgeist, and our Future.
